When will I get my pre-order?
Fjorden Basic Bundles, and Bundles containing the MagSafe Cases for iPhone 13 Pro & Pro Max are now shipping by tracked airmail courier. They arrive within 5-15 days.
The MagSafe Adapter and the MagSafe Cases for the iPhone 12 & 14 are still being manufactured. Please see our regular Kickstarter updates for the latest shipping estimates.
Is Fjorden compatible with my iPhone model?
Yes, it is! Fjorden fits onto any iPhone, and can be used with future iPhones when you upgrade. In terms of software, Fjorden works with all iPhones running iOS 14 or newer.
We offer MagSafe cases for:
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Alternatively we also offer a MagSafe Adapter that lets you use the Fjorden Grip with any other MagSafe case (e.g. Apple, Moment, Peak Design), or on the bare iPhone. The adapter comes in two sizes:
- S/M: for iPhone 12 mini & 13 mini, iPhone 12, 13 & 14, iPhone 12 Pro, 13 Pro & 14 Pro,
- L: for iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Plus & iPhone 14 Pro Max.
In the box, Fjorden also ships with a Universal Adapter Plate that attaches to all iPhone sizes (with a reusable adhesive).
Does the Fjorden Camera App take advantage of Apple’s native computational imaging capabilities (like Deep Fusion, HDR, Portrait Mode, Night Mode, etc.)?
Yes, the Fjorden Camera App makes use of all computational photography tools that Apple is making available to us via APIs - HDR/Deep Fusion, ProRAW, Portrait Mode, etc. We also plan to enhance them where possible, e.g. allowing you to choose the (simulated) aperture in portrait mode, and applying the look/optical characteristics of vintage lenses.
Unfortunately, there is no developer access to Apple’s “Night Mode” as of yet. We plan on developing our own tools here (though everyone in camera app developer community is hopeful that Apple will make their Night Mode available to devs in the near future).
One of our partners, ProCamera (which will be fully compatible with the Fjorden Grip), has developed their own Night Mode, and the Fjorden Grip will be able to trigger the shutter button of the Apple stock camera app - which means there are at least a few options for using Night Mode with Fjorden right out of the box.
How does the Moment Lens compatibility work?
When you buy an iPhone 12-series Moment case, they come with a Drop-In Lens Mount - or you can order them from Moment separately.
The Drop-In Lens Mounts clip into the Moment cases and also into the Fjorden MagSafe cases - and that’s what you see in our Kickstarter video! Keep in mind that these Drop-In Lens Mounts come in different sizes: For example, the lens mount for an iPhone 12 Mini is smaller than for a 12 Pro Max, because the latter’s camera array is larger. So, a Moment lens mount for a Moment 12 Mini case will fit into a Fjorden 12 Mini case, a Moment 12 Pro lens mount will fit into a Fjorden 12 Pro case, etc.
As Moment does not offer Drop-In Lens Mounts for iPhone 11-series cases, we are currently investigating options for making our own.
Does the Fjorden Universal Adapter Plate work with Moment (or other) iPhone cases?
The Fjorden Universal Adapter Plate attaches via a (reusable) adhesive. It works best on the bare iPhone, but we’ve also tested it on silicone cases like the Apple silicone case and it adheres very well.
However - how well the Adapter Plate works on any particular case depends on the texture of that case. Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that it would stick securely on a rougher texture.
Moreover, combining the Adapter Plate with another case will add roughly 2.4mm thickness to the overall solution, compared to using our own MagSafe cases (as our physical Quick-Release connector mechanism is embedded into our cases).
So, if you have any of the iPhone 11 or 12 models, or are thinking about upgrading to the upcoming iPhone 13, we’d recommend choosing a package that includes one of our MagSafe cases.
Will there be an Android version?
We’d love to support Android - but we don’t currently have the resources!
The Fjorden hardware is already compatible with Android, but building a great Android camera app is trickier than on iOS. Every Android manufacturer (Oppo, Samsung, Xiaomi, Google Pixel etc.) exposes slightly different camera capabilities to developers, and there are way more phone models to test.
Having said that, it’s a possibility we’re considering for the future!
